FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Know what to expect
before you send your phone.

Our goal is to make the process transparent. Browse the questions below or contact us if you want to discuss your specific phone.

GETTING STARTED

Evaluation & eligibility

What happens during a phone evaluation?

We discuss your phone's model, storage, carrier, condition, known repairs or problems, and your current needs. We also discuss expected timeframes and compensation so we can explain which selling option may be the best fit.

Does requesting an evaluation commit me to selling?

No. An evaluation is the first step. You can decide whether you want to proceed after we discuss your phone, your options, and the expected process.

What phones do you accept?

We evaluate smartphones individually based on model, age, condition, carrier or unlocked status, device history, market demand, and resale viability. Damaged phones may still qualify depending on the type and extent of damage.

Can I use CacheWood if I do not live in Miami?

Yes. CacheWood Mobile is based in Miami, Florida and works with customers across the United States. After an approved evaluation and completed agreement, we can provide a prepaid shipping label and instructions for sending your phone to us.

YOUR TWO SELLING OPTIONS

Direct buyout vs. consignment

What is a direct buyout?

A direct buyout means CacheWood purchases an eligible phone directly from you. We discuss the expected compensation before you proceed. After the phone is received, inspected, and successfully verified, payment is normally issued within 2-3 business days after delivery.

What does it mean when CacheWood sells my phone for me?

This is our consignment option. Instead of purchasing the phone immediately, CacheWood handles the online selling process on your behalf, including preparing the listing, marketing the device, managing buyer communication, and completing the sale.

Which option pays more?

There is no single answer for every phone. A direct buyout prioritizes speed and simplicity, while having us sell the phone for you may provide a different compensation opportunity in exchange for a longer timeframe and the normal risks of an online resale transaction. We discuss both options during evaluation when they are available.

When do I get paid if CacheWood sells my phone for me?

Payout is issued 30 days after the phone has successfully sold and been delivered to the new owner, provided there is no unresolved return, dispute, payment reversal, or marketplace hold.

DEVICE VERIFICATION

IMEI, ownership & status checks

What is an IMEI?

An IMEI is a unique identifying number associated with a cellular phone. A phone may have more than one IMEI when it supports multiple SIM configurations. We use identifying information such as the IMEI to help confirm the device and review available status information.

Why does CacheWood check the IMEI?

We use the IMEI and other device information to confirm the phone's identity and review available industry device-status tools for concerns such as reported lost or stolen status. We may also review carrier, activation-lock, and other eligibility information when available.

Do you check whether a phone is stolen?

Yes. We review available device-status information for reports that a phone has been lost or stolen. A transaction cannot be completed if the phone is reported lost or stolen unless the issue is legitimately resolved and the device becomes eligible.

Do you check financing or lease status?

We review available device and carrier information for financing, lease, or ownership concerns when that information can be verified. Some financing information is not publicly available, so seller representations or additional documentation may be required.

When are these checks performed?

We perform a preliminary review during the evaluation phase and confirm applicable identifying and device-status information again after the physical phone is received. Final approval occurs only after inspection and verification.

What else do you inspect once the phone arrives?

Depending on the phone, we may confirm model and storage, cosmetic condition, display and touch function, cameras, charging, buttons, battery information, carrier or unlocked status, account/activation locks, and other basic functions relevant to resale.

PREPARING & SHIPPING YOUR PHONE

Before you send the device

Do you provide a shipping label?

Yes. For approved transactions that proceed by shipment, CacheWood provides a prepaid shipping label after the evaluation and agreement are completed. Because smartphones contain lithium-ion batteries, the shipment may also require the appropriate UN3481 lithium battery mark. CacheWood will provide the digital mark and packaging instructions needed for the approved shipment. Do not send a phone before you receive all shipping materials and instructions from us.

What is the UN3481 lithium battery mark and where do I put it?

Smartphones contain lithium-ion batteries, which are regulated for transportation. A phone with its lithium-ion battery installed is commonly shipped under UN3481 requirements. For approved shipments that require the mark, CacheWood will provide a digital UN3481 lithium battery mark along with your prepaid shipping label. Print the mark as provided and attach it flat and clearly visible on the outside of the package alongside the shipping label. Do not fold it around an edge, place it across a box seam, cover it with another label, or obscure any part of the mark. Always follow the shipping instructions CacheWood provides for your specific shipment.

Do I need to factory reset my phone?

Yes. Back up anything you want to keep first, sign out of personal accounts, remove applicable activation locks, and then perform a complete factory reset before shipping.

Do I need to turn off Find My iPhone?

Yes. Find My iPhone must be turned off and Activation Lock must be disabled before an iPhone is transferred to CacheWood. If the phone remains tied to the previous owner's Apple account, the transaction may not be able to proceed.

What about Android phones?

Back up your data, remove your Google and other personal accounts, make sure any device-protection or account-lock features are cleared, and perform a factory reset before shipping.

How should I package the phone?

Use a sturdy cardboard box, protect the phone from moisture with a clean water-resistant inner bag or sleeve, wrap the device in multiple layers of bubble wrap, add enough packing material that the phone cannot move inside the box, and seal the box securely with packing tape. Remove or fully cover old labels and barcodes. Then attach the prepaid shipping label and, when instructed, the CacheWood-provided UN3481 lithium battery mark to the outside of the package.

Can I ship a phone with a swollen or damaged battery?

Do not ship a phone with a swollen, punctured, leaking, smoking, overheating, or otherwise damaged battery. Contact CacheWood before attempting to ship the device.

PAYMENT

When and how you get paid

When do I get paid for a direct buyout?

Once the phone is delivered, inspected, and successfully verified, payment is normally issued within 2-3 business days after delivery.

How can I receive payment?

Depending on the transaction and the agreed preference, payment may be made by bank transfer, Zelle, or check. We determine the mutually agreed method that is most practical for the transaction.

Why does the sell-it-for-you option have a 30-day payout period?

When CacheWood sells a phone on your behalf, the sale must be completed and the phone delivered to the buyer. The 30-day period allows time for the post-sale transaction to clear and for any return, dispute, payment reversal, or marketplace hold to be identified before final proceeds are released.

What if the phone I send is different from what I described?

If the received condition, identity, functionality, or verification results differ materially from the evaluation information, we contact you before finalizing the transaction. Any revised terms must be agreed before proceeding.
